This is my 4th treo 680. They lead a hard life...
About 2 years ago I stockpiled some 680's and I now have one left (my 5th one). However, that one is unreliable and reboots almost at random. Don't know why that one should be unreliable since it was the only one I ever bought new!
Still, the point is that I now consider it time to move from the palm platform. I knew this day would come and every so often I have looked up alternatives.
There are only two apps that are fundamentally critical to my workflow and they are:
1. A password manager
2. A list manager
Everything else I have installed is nice but I can work without them. Nay, I can work even better without most of them. However, the password and list managers are vital to me.
I currently have 254 entries stored in the password manager database.
I also have 2000+ entries in various shadowplan lists.
My current password manager is available on palm and android. So that is something of a no brainer then.
My list manager is ShadowPlan (obviously) and its flexibility means that I can treat different lists in massively different ways. To get all the functionality on a new platform I have not found any app that will fit the bill. The best I can see is to buy a "list manager" or two and also mgsd which is a tiddlywiki tailored for GTD type stuff.
My wife has an iPhone 3 and I really don't like it. She loves it more than she loves me (not that hard I guess). I am just not an iPhone type of person.
I will keep monitoring this list and if Shadow becomes available on Android I am likely to be interested. I can say with certainty that I would even pay well over $49. I can say that because I know how good it is and how useful it has been. However, most people will not have that fortunate experience. Consequently, most potential customers will not pay that sort of money.
It is likely to be most successful if pitched between $9.99 and $19.99 and emphasised as a "serious" app. There are loads of apps for less than $5 and they are just "throwaway".
Anyhow, this is just my opinion and whatever happens I'd like to thank Jeff for what he has achieved and wish him and his family the best in the future.
