Discussion:
Fatal Alert

I just reviewed the HotSync log and noticed some messages that are
probably relevant.

When the problem list is backed up properly, the following line
appears in the log:
-- Backing up db ShadP-A Personal ToDo to file C:\Program
Files\palmOne\PM\Backup\ShadP-A_Personal_ToDo.PDB

After a fatal alert occurs, the problem list "disappears" from the
Shadow menu of lists and this line appears in the log:
-- The database for ShadP-A_Personal_ToDo.PDB was deleted on the
handheld. Moving the backup to the Archive folder.

And when the file is reinstalled, this appears (of course):
- Installed file: C:\Program Files\palmOne\PM\Install\ShadP-
A_Personal_ToDo.PDB

This always appears at the bottom of the log (with the current date
and time):
System synchronization failed
Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)
HotSync operation complete 06/12/08 09:54:13

Thanks again,
Mark

In the past few days I began using Shadow 4.3.1 extensively after a
hiatus of about 8 months. I have two lists: one for personal todos
and one for work todos. Items that are current get linked to the
ToDo application native to my Palm Tungsten E2.

At least once per day I've been receiving the following:
Fatal Alert
MemoryMgr.c,Line:3732,
NULL handle
Reset

The reset button on the touchscreen won't reset the T E2, it has to
be reset using the pinhole at the back. After the reset, the file
is either missing entirely, or another message appears when opening
Shadow: Bad file won't load (or something like this).

I can reinstall most recent version of the file on the PC from the
C:\Program Files\PalmOne\PM\Backup or \Archive folder, but the
problem will reappear after using the file for a while. I can't
duplicate the problem on demand, but I think it might be the
personal ToDo list that is the problem.

I read a previous thread on this topic from another T E2 user (cf.
23627 - 23631). It looks as though the problem is in one of the
Shadow lists, but I don't see a way to repair the list.

Can anyone help?
Thank you.

The crash is while _in_ Shadow, or in the ToDo (visiting the
linked record), or after exitting or..?

Would be pretty hard for the list to get corrupted, but it is
remotely possible through various whacky ways.

Shadow Desktop can read the pdb file of a list and save out a new
PDB file; or if you have the xml file, it can write out a new PDB file
from that, or any number of things. This can be a good way to get rid of
any extra 'gunk' that has gotten in there. Last resort, but not overly
troublesome an approach so might be worth doing. (ie: Open Raw the PDB
file, then Save-As a new PDB file (new filename) and sree how it goes.)
