Address Linking and Filtering ... Slow Display & Soft Reset on Filter

Jeff,
I hate to begin on a sour note, so I won't.

SP is one of the best programs I've ever used on ANY platform (and
I've used a LOT and tested even more). It has really helped me over
the years with any number of things from simply keeping lists of
things (for years sometimes between reviewing them) to tracking to-
do's and projects day-to-day and month-to-month in a way that has
simplified and empowered my life. Thank you for working so hard to
produce such a superior piece of software.

btw ... Congratulations on the new developer and the new development
environment.

But ... <<< You knew this was coming, didn't you?

... I've recently purchased a Treo 755p-Verizon (previously had a
Tungsten T & before that a Handera 330) and have endured many of the
slow response issues discussed at length in this forum. These
issues are, though irritating, relatively minor in my experience
thus far. Not that I wouldn't dearly love to have back the
instantaneous response I had gotten used to with the T, but I can
live with it.

The two problems I am having are posing a severe threat to my
abilitiy to use SP to track anything to do with people (read:
contacts), or memos. They are:
1. When selecting "Add" in the filter manager screen, the list (of
contacts or memos) is populated EXTREMELY slowly (on the order of 2
seconds per entry). This behavior is repeated every time the list
has to be refreshed for a scoll. It does not seem to matter what
the size of the native PIM db is (contacts on the order of 1000,
memos on the order of 20).

2. When creating a custom filter based on an address link being
present, the device soft-resets upon selecting the "Pick" button in
the address lookup screen. So, then of course no filter is ever
created, and it is impossible to filter on any contact whatsoever.
<<<<

I've seen a number of messages on here detailing this problem on
many different devices and I can only guess it has something to do
with the new P1 db's. As I've said, the response on the T was
instantaneous and the links and filters worked perfectly. I've
tried to use the ForcePIMs stub from CESD to no avail (though I may
well be doing it wrong, just installed the app and did a soft reset,
to no effect).

I'm at my wit's end trying to deal with this and am hoping that some
solution may be forthcoming (that I may have missed?), or some
workaround, or something that will allow me to manage contacts and
projects in the way I'd like to become accustomed to again.

Thank you for your time, and again for a great app (reservations
understood ;) )

this problem, workarounds, anything?

Please help!

I'm around; I don't check this list every day .. couple times a
week; if anyone is particularly hard up for an answer, you can email me
direct as well (though dont' be migrating en masse to that ;)

This is due to Palm being silly; it is a tonne of work to
workaround. (ie: And particularly annoying, since I did workarounds for
this twice, but both couldn't be used because of bugs in the OS making it
blow up.) Given time (Palm finally did release some documentation about
this OS change, though not its many nefarious bugs) I could sort it out,
but its a lot of investment in time which I don't have a lot of right
now.. so this I'm on the fence about.

Thats interesting .. and would also be due to OS bugs. I don't
recall seeing reports on that specific instaqnce of the issue but it makes
sense.

ForcePIMS? I will have to look that up.. didn't hear of it.

I've a few other Palm-side changes queued up for working on before
I woudl get to any of this, and these are particularly annoying to work
on, so I am thinking these won't get looked at really soon. I hate to say
that, and its not in my nature to back down on things, but with things as
busy as they've been I'm inclined to guess this will be the case so you
can react as best for you.

So many times I wish Palm had handled that whole business better.
