I recently uninstalled and reinstalled all my palm desktop apps. I'm using a new location for the Palm data file. I have it all working except I got this error in the log when I hotsynced shadow after reinstalling.

- Installed file: U:\Palm\Leslie\Install\CJListLauncher.prc
- Installed file: U:\Palm\Leslie\Install\Shadow.prc
- Installed file: U:\Palm\Leslie\Install\ShadowSync.prc
OK Install
OK Install To Card
Conduit Error: Unknown error. (1000)
OK Quick Install

I haven't hotsynced since because I had to do a full restore on the Palm Tungsten T3. I intend to overlay the desktop with the palm next but first I wanted to understand what this conduit error might be.

That is an undefined error from Hotsync Manager; it doesn't mean
anything useful. (yay for useful errors :/)

Vista or XP?

Did the Shadow install complete fully?

Uninstall and Install has always been goofy with Palm Desktop
relatives :/

I believe that the shadow install completed that last time. I actually went through the process (starting with the original palm disk) multiple times before I got to the point of the error. That last time was the whole process went very smoothly because I avoided some of the difficulties I experienced earlier and I had hotsynced successfully other applications and files with no errors before I installed shadow. I was careful because shadow gave me an error the first time I tried it saying it couldn't find my user and something about the directory above the shadowplan160 and shadowplan400 directories. I gave my user file path but I was unclear if I should be able to view shadow lists from the desktop. It was not immediately clear and I hadn't used the desktop in quite a while. ... I just looked at the manual and found that the outlines panel was off so when I clicked it open it found my outlines. I should have looked in the doc earlier.

I would like to understand the difference between the shadowplan160 and shadowplan400 directories. I seem to have lists (xml files) in both with some duplicates but not all duplicates. Are these where the desktop versions of outlines are kept?

I ended up hotsyncing using handheld overlays desktop mode for every conduit that would support it and do nothing for everything else. It seemed to work fine. I then did a regular hotsync and had no errors.

I don't know why I got that conduit error, but I'm not getting it now and both the handheld and the desktop apps seem to be back to normal with the exception is that shadow is not listed as an application in Palm Desktop list on the left handside. I thought it was before. Would that indicate that the install didn't complete?

Another glich was that I ended up with a insteula.txt file instead of an english name. Not really a problem the text was in english.

In a rush but thought I'd give a couple quick bits..

ShadowPlan160 and ShadowPlan400 are just Shadow working
directories for hotsync, but the 160 one is for a very old version. ie: At
some point in the distant past, the conduit was changed and the file
formats updated a touch, so rather than risk collision I bumped the
directory name to a new 'version number' of sorts. This way folks would
have their current sync now in the 400 dir, and their old stuff in the
160, shoudl they wish to go back and revisit it.

ie: You shoudl only see updates in the 400 dir, the 160 should
just be old stuff. If a list is in both, its because you're a long time
user who migrated along to new versions as they came.

Thats something you hacked into the registry on your own.
