Help! Having major problems saving as PDF!

Hi all,

I'm using ShadowPlan 4.3.1 on my PowerBook G4 running OS/X 10.4.11. I
keep using the Print dialog and "click on the PDF button so I can save
my outline in PDF form and send that PDF to my colleague.
Unfortunately, when I open the PDF, my three page outline is either a
one-page PDF (i.e. the last page of my outline or just a couple of
nodes/leaves of my outline) or blank pages. Although, if I print the
doc, it'll print out fully but, I cannot save my doc as a PDF correctly.

Am i missing a step, is there a glitch somewhere, a setting
off-kilter? Just where and why is this happening? How can I fix this

Please advise.

Your help and advice are much appreciated.

This is a major problem with the desktop, in my opinion. I am using the
Linux version of Shadow. I don't have a printer; so I have my system
set up to always print to pdf. It seems that the desktop is set up to
send one page at a time to the printer; so printing to pdf gets only one
page.

I work around it by Save as HTML first and then printing the pdf from
that. This changes the formatting some. I like the fact that the
margins are less which gets more on a page, especially with the notes.

I don't think we can fix this. I think it is part of how the program
works. This is actually an issue with some printers as well. When I was
using Shadow at work with Windows, one of our printers worked fine with
it and another did exactly what we see with the pdf print.

IIRC, there were a few discussions on this a while back.

The problem, as I remember it, was that the only way that was found to
overcome some limitation was to send each page as a separate print job. I
can't remember what the obstacle was, but it effectively means that that the
program is actually creating multiple print jobs for multi-page outlines.
Jeff did recognize at the time that this does not represent ideal behavior.

Anita's solution, to export to HTML before printing, is probably the best
way to work around this.

Thank you for the workaround. That helps a bit. Not the ideal way
for the fix but, it works and achieves a respectable goal.

Hopefully, CodeJedi will address this issue soon (are you listening,
CodeJedi?)

This is a weird one; I'm trying to think of a good way to
reproduce this.. anyone have cool ideas? (Which printer? Perhaps if its a
stock driver, I can simulate it and see what happens..)

It works for me and a great many people; just some printer drivers
do something which causes it to stop after one page; obviously a code flaw
in my code or the toolkits I use, but not sure where.

If we can find this, I'll make a quick release of the desktop for
sure.

Hi Jeff; Hi all;

Don't know why I didn't mention it--I'm using an Epson Stylus Color
740. It's using the stock Epson drivers (not the GIMP drivers from
OS/X 10.4). Next, I've got it connected to my Airport Express
hub--yes, I'm using the CS 740 on my Wireless net.

Hope that helps you solve this inquiry.

Using 4.3.1 Windows Deskto and trying to print a 3 page Shadow file to
file using HP Color LaserJet PS. I get 3 save dialogs to name each of
the 3 pages. This is what also happens when I try to print a pdf.

If I try the same thing with a Word document, for example, I get a file
that has all 3 pages, not 3 separate files.

If I print to the actual printer, of course the 3 files are sent to the
printer and I end up with 3 pages. But printing to pdf doesn't work,
because you only get either 1 page (like I get in Linux), or in my case
here at work, I get 3 pdfs, 1 for each page.

That is what the current poster was asking for -- printing to pdf.
