Transferring Shadow to a New Computer

Hi,

I'm a die-hard Shadow Plan user and have been for the past five years or so. I still run SP on my Palm Tungsten and it's doing great. Couldn't live without it.

I've just upgraded my desktop and I want to transfer my SP files to the new system. The last time I did this a few years ago, I lost everything. If I remember correctly, I had both the desktop and palm working okay, but if they would sync, they'd blow out the tags, which I use extensively.

So, to avoid the same problems this time around, could you give me the step by step process on how to do it?

Thanks much!

Same question here, I've used Shadow each summer for a couple of months to collect data -- on a Clie (TH55 recently)-- on a wildland fire restoration project that goes back 18 years.

This year, trying to boot Shadow in OSX, it just crashes repeatedly. (Intel Mini, 10.6.3). I gather Shadow's

I had trouble with it on the Clie too -- bought it a second time in fact, never got the second copy to even register because the checkout software got the Palm user name wrong! Arrgh.

So I've finally loaded an old backup file from my old Powerbook to my Clie.

Do I dare use Shadow in the field for 3 weeks and come home and try to figure out what to do? I'm baffled, this was just a little item on my big checklist for the job and now it's a time sink.

Is there a reliable way to move from the Clie to some other application that runs under OSX on the Intel Mini, and keep working on the Clie? Do I need to buy a different handheld and some other app?

In about 2 weeks, I go to the woods. I'm afraid I'll be taking paper printouts and a pencil with me this time and have a mess to sort out when I get back. Rrrrrrgh. Help?

Well, I'm back. I did keep using Shadow on the Clie (Palm OS).
At worst I guess I can boot the older Mac and get the files out.

But -- please -- if anyone knows a straightforward way or ways to export Shadowplan data in usable form, to something else --- please.

Put up a topic for those of us who need to know what to do?

Theres lots of ways to get the data out of Shadow handheld files
(.pdb files)

OSX client won't come up for you?

Windows client under vmware or parallels?

If its only one file, I could export it to text/html or somethign
for you; I've not reviewed back in the thread to see where you need it to
get to .. I wonder why the OSX client is blowing up.

Hi Jeff,

This is off topic, but I know you also carry a Vaio UX. How is it doing? Do you
know anything about availability of replacement batteries? The battery I have
now is about 18 months old. I am contemplating investigating upgrading the UX to
give it more memory and storage, but am concerned that if I cannot replace this
battery when it dies then the UX will essentially be dead anyway. Sony does not
have batteries for it on their site, and I wondered what your experience getting
replacement batteries for it has been.

All the best,
