FWIW, I've now got a T|X, and I will be working on some updates
soon to help on those devices .. gotta say, Palm did some odd things in
that one :) (Shadow handheld, Battlejewels, and some others.)

Aside.. anyon want to buy the wireless keyboard I Was forced into
acquiring with it? $50 never used :)

Hi,
I can not wait for a new version. I am even willing to pay for the new
version although I already paid once for the old one.

And frankly, I think you should change your licensing model to
something more manageable and profitable. There's no point in having a
great program and hungry developer ;-)

I want SP to continue not to cease ...

USD.. down. Palm related stores.. dieing. Palm pushing only
Centro. Across the board, Palm developers down 80% from a couple years
ago.

Tough times .. changing the model won't help unless we go to a
subscription model, but I doubt many woudl take that up, especially with
such a feature rich application already available :)

It won't die, if thats what your worry is; Palm hasn't made me any
money inn awhile, but I still keep the site up and am working on Palm OS
code (mostly cross platform with others though mind you). I'm hoping to
still make a few bucks on Palm OS, and I'm hoping the Centro will turn
things around for them ... but so far it seems like peopel who buy Centros
don't buy applications for it (yet anyway.)

I'll keep going, supporting Palm and likely other platforms..
though I've been a Palm diehard for a loooong time :)

Thank God for that! I was beginning to despair... this has been a
frustrating experience for me because I LOVE ShadowPlan, I had used it
as a freeware with limitations for years and finally I decided to buy
it when I bought my T|X (to make use of the large screen). I have
bought only two apps for my Palm, I'm not an intensive buyer...

It was a bit of a shock to see that SP works so badly on the T|X...
and asking for support didn't help for a LONG time. I love babies, so
it helps being comprehensive of the developer's situation, but anyway...

So regarding license systems, I'm not willing to pay any more because
I'm still waiting to get what I payed for more than a year ago...

All is well when it ends well, and I'm looking forward to a T|X bugfix
release of SP as soon as possible. I think Jeff will be a happier man
once he gets it done too: it's like a comeback to a professional level
which I bet he always intended to keep, but was hindered by
circumstances beyond his control. :-)

Best wishes!

Hi Jeff,

I'm planning to get a Centro in addition to my TX.
So be assured, I'll get a second ShadowPlan as soon as I have the Centro.

But I'm also happy that you finally got a TX to see the glitches yourself and hopefully find a solution for the problems.
Thanks a lot for your good work.

Regards,
Christian

Cool, let me know how it goes. I think the phone division must get
more work.. I've always thought the Treos were _fantastic_ machines. (ODd
the T|X has so many issues.. the Treo 650 and T|T5 are nearly identical
and work great; the t|X on the other hand.. nightmare, but not much
different from t|T5 hardware wise..)

I was glad when we got past the days where every single device was
a different beast needing custom dev. But alas, the days onyl seemed to go
away ...

At least (in a way) there are not 5 or more manufacturers.. on the
one hand, Palm diversity was cool as heck, but on the other.. coding for
Handera, Alphasmart, Sony, etc, was a right pain in the rear :/

We're actually amid getting ready for a move .. packing everything
up. After boxing up all the millions of PDAs I've had to support over the
years, all I can say is..

.. like I need another one ;)

As I always say - 'he who dies with the most gadgets, wins!'
though :)

Palm and Pocket PC (etc) have certainly been prolific over the
years!

Hi Jeff,

Is there any progress on solving the T|X multiple refresh bug?

I'd like to offer my help - if you need someone to test, debug, etc.
Or to provide you with data files that exhibit the bug, if you can't
reproduce it on your own.

Have you been able to see it happen on your new T|X?

This is the one bug that would leave a LOT of people happy if you
could patch it somehow...

Thanks!

If only Palm woudl fix the root bug that causes it :/

hmmrf. I should just hack a timer to prevent from doing redraws
within a half second of each other or something. I wonder.... thats lame,
but would it work? :)

Eh eh we both know Palm isn't going to retouch this code EVER.

If you check back on this thread:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shadow-discuss/messages/24393?threaded=1&m=e&var=1&tidx=1

... see my original post where I describe exactly what the three
redraws are doing; and then post #24573 below for a list of things
that do/don't flicker.

There are three paints, but only the last one is the correct. It has
to do with the DIA, going up and down and causing Shadow to
re-evaluate whether a scrollbar is needed, etc.

I have a clue for you: it seems that there is a strange behaviour as
far as the DIA is concerned on the T|X. If an app changes DIA state
programatically, the DIA goes down BUT somewhere in the bowels of the
system Palm OS still thinks it is up. This means that the ONLY way to
put the DIA 100% down is by tapping the status bar button. All other
methods seem to leave it 99% down, and this might explain why you're
getting inconsistent events.

Anyway these problems only show in Shadow, so they should be solvable.

I suggest checking the points in your code where you test for DIA
position (are they giving you accurate info?) or change DIA state
(either deliberately or by showing a form which is 320x320 and forces
the DIA up).

Then if you can see where the problem lies you could do a "lame hack"
like

on [event]:
if (im_on_a_TX) just_ignore_it;

... and it just might work... :-)

Let me tell you we really would appreciate any efforts you can make to
nail this nasty problem. Thanks!
