Discussion:
Shadow Plan Desktop?

I'm looking for a lightweight "To-do List" / Outliner. The tasks in
Outlook would be fine except that Outlook doesn't support subcategories.

ShadowPlan Desktop appears as if it might work. The FAQ addresses the
case of synchronization with Outlook via the Palm, but doesn't address
the case of synchronization between ShadowPlan Desktop and Outlook.

So, are there any folks who just use the desktop version of
ShadowPlan, and does it synchronize with Outlook? ... Thanks much.

I have used only the Desktop version in the past in Windows at work. It
does not sync with Outlook.

Aside from the lack of integration with Outlook, do you like the
standalone Desktop version of ShadowPlan?

Do you know if the product is still under active development, and have
you found help readily available (if you needed support)?

Thanks - Glen

Yes !
As a matter of fact I use it even more than the Palm counterpart
(because I use my notebook a lot). I miss the tags, but that's all and
I don't need them that much when in front of my computer.

I must be missing something in the conversation because Shadow Desktop
does support Tags. I use them all the time to filter the display. Do
you mean custom views?

I don't use tags, but IIRC, Shadow Desktop only supports using existing
tags. To create them, you need to use the palm and sync or edit the tag xml
file manually.

Maybe there's an update I'm not aware of that adds tag creation support...?

Unfortunately, there's no update to solve the tag creation problem or
the ability to have different kinds of items. To make matters worse,
if you manually update the XML file, the changes are overwritten the
next time you perform a sync with the handheld. The desktop version
is definitely more limited than the handheld version and you pretty
much can't use the desktop version only.

That said, I use the desktop version 99% of the time and have been
begging Jeff, off-list, for some critical updates. I've even offered
to pay for some development work. I'd switch to a different app, but
I can't find anything that meets my needs as well as Shadow. Anyone
else want to pool some resources and bribe Jeff for an update?

*g* I saw you resent your list in email, but I've not had a chance
to look much of late; theres gthis 3 week period I'm in the middle of,
where I'm 100% babysitting my daughter. Its great fun and all, but damn,
not even having time to check email much is brutal ;)

I'll check it in a week or two when I'm back on my normal schedule
and go from there.

I also use the desktop version. The one limitation I find with it is that the only format available on the desktop is checklist. So while you can do the multiple indents of a formal outline, you cannot use number/letter ids or even have a simple numbered list as you can on the Palm. Other than that it seems to be very similar to the Palm version, and it integrates well between the two which is good for me as I use both.
